St. Margaret’s Vestry meets 4 or 5 times a year (more often when necessary) and Vestry approved Minutes are available in Church. We have a Constitution and are represented at Diocesan and General Synod. We attend services in the Cathedral Church of St. Paul and representatives attend Diocesan Conferences.
We have willing members of the Congregation who volunteer readily for inclusion in rotas for...
A bi-monthly Magazine is produced and after Sunday Service we meet socially for refreshments in the Church Hall. Again, volunteers organize and carry out these tasks. We are a Fair Trade Congregation. Three times a year we hold Coffee mornings in the Church Hall to augment Church funds and these are very popular with the local community and well attended. Other fund raising activities include quizzes, raffles, bonus ball sweep, bring and buy sales, an annual Smartie Tube appeal (we are given the chocolate contents and return the tube filled with coins) and an annual Gift Day all in aid of Church funds. Once a month there is a Prize Bingo session attended by a small but enthusiastic group.
A Congregational Dinner is an annual event with outside catering and musical entertainment and we organize “Bring and Share” meals throughout the year, as well as Hunger Lunches in aid of local charities. A tea party has been an annual event for those in the Congregation who are housebound and is hosted in the Rectory.
As well as our own St. Margaret’s Magazine the “ Brechin Bulletin”, giving local Diocesan news and “Inspires”, the magazine of the Scottish Episcopal Church, are made available in Church. Quarterly issues of “Grapevine”, giving news, views and information from around the Diocese, are distributed amongst the Congregation free of charge.
We maintain links with the local community through “Lochee Churches Together”, SCIAF, and taking part in Open Door Day - a scheme throughout Dundee whereby places of interest open their doors to the general public and we have also held our own Open Day to encourage local people to come into our Church, meet with us and learn a little of our history and place in the community. There have been links with the local primary school and the Brownies and Guides have held services within the Church.
